  1. A quiz! That was fun and informative. I did pretty well but I admit I was completely guessing on many of the questions.

The one I was most wrong on? Number 5, which seemed improbable (“for a time, he managed the singing group DeGarmo & Key”). They were one of my favorite bands back in the early 80’s when I first became a Christian, so that is quite a surprise!

  2. I read these books ahead of time, anticipating posting on this site and others. This is the first series of Lawhead’s that I have read and finished the series, well as far as I can, liking. Very good. Okay now, series that I have read and not liked. The Pendragon cycle had great promise and the first four books were wonderful, but Grail couldn’t hold up to the four that preceded it and left the ending incomplete. The Dragon King Trilogy looked like it was going to be really good and probably is. The problem is, I am a very picky fantasy reader. I will not read books, like Eragon or Harry Potter, where magic is accepted as okay amoung the good guys because the Bible says that God considers such things detestable. (see Deuteronomy 18:10 and the surrounding passage) I will not read books with strong language. I can take a little bit as with the Pendragon cycle. I will not read books where people can come back from the dead except from God’s power. This was my problem with The Dragon King Trilogy and I stopped about halfway through. I started the Song of Albion Trilogy and stopped very soon because the language was so strong. If the King Raven Trilogy continues as it has, I think it will find a place in my bookshelf; however, Stephen R. Lawhead will never find a place amoung my favorite authors.

  3. Hi Becky,
I was unable to take the quiz-I didn’t study for it;)
I did post a review at Quest Writer, though.

  4. What a great idea, Becky!!!

In response to the Christian_Fantasy_Addict’s post, you haven’t read fantasy until you’ve read Song of Albion. . . .

  5. You don’t know how much I wish I could read it, but it’s something can’t and won’t change about myself. I have had to cut myself off pretty much entirely from the secular fantasy market. I love fantasy so much, but because of the reasons I listed above I was about ready to completely abandon fantasy when I found authors like Batson, Davis, Hopper, etc. and I was so excited because I knew know that I could finally find fantasy that I would be able to read and enjoy throughly without having to worry about books like the Song of Albion where God’s name is used profanely and other such language is in common use.

  7. Great post Becky! What a cool idea to do a quiz! Fun!

Lawhead’s books are, IMHO, the perfect image of Christian Spec Fic. Christian_Fantasy_addict, I see your point and if that’s your conviction you should follow it. I would only encourage you not to judge art through narrow eyes. Remember we live in a harsh and sinnful world. We are in the world, but not of it. God doesn’t say we should be afraid of reality. Interestingly enough my post today on my blog skimmed over this issue.

    Blessings!

  11. Thanks to all of you for stopping by.

Robert, I would have had to guess at most of these questions as well. I knew very little about Lawhead until this tour.

Grace, 6 is a good score, I think, since I assume you didn’t study any more than Eve did. 😉

Michael, I hope you enjoy Lawhead’s book and that you feel free to stop by A Christian Worldview of Fiction often.

Christian Fantasy Addict, Rachel (Pixy) is right—you have to stay true to your own standards, and not feel pressured into changing them just because they don’t align with what you see others doing. Thankfully there is good fantasy that allows you to enjoy the genre without compromising your position. Have you read Donita Paul’s books yet? I’m reading DragonFire right now and enjoying it a great deal.
