Prolific Blogger Award

I’ve received this thoughtful recognition from Jackie Castle who blogs at In Still Places. If you haven’t stopped by her site before, now is a good time to visit.

First, here’s what the award stands for: “A prolific blogger is one who is intellectually productive… keeping up an active blog that is filled with enjoyable content.”

    As I am introducing myself and my books, I thought I’d address you formally. I discovered you because you gave Rachel S. Thomson your Blogger Award.
    I realize that I should be writing more about my books and interests so this is my start to you.
    I was a teacher for 28 years and I am now a lay reader in the local Anglican Church in Essex County. I met Rachel at a writers’ Workshop recently.
    My books celebrate where I live and my site is still being reworked. It has improved but I know I need to do more to get my work known. I am now too old to tour schools as I have done! I’m 73 and still enjoy writing daily.
    I would welcome any advice about a way to blog (I joined Twitter but have done nothing there- not sure I like it) It’s great to find a Christian site.
    Right now, apart from writing life stories, I’ve started a book about a child’s relationship with a grandmother who gets cancer. I want to do this as a Christian and as a tribute to the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County where I have been a volunteer for 20 years.
    Enough about me. I’d be so pleased to have any reply.

    Hi, Jane, thanks for stopping by. You said I need to do more to get my work known. I’d first recommend joining Facebook. I did so a year or so ago as a way to reconnect with my former students, and it’s provided me with just that opportunity. Plus I have a way to invite others to my blog and to interact in a brief way with writer friends, agents, editors, former colleagues, family. Facebook is free and it is fairly easy to navigate. There are lots of distractions (games you can play and the like) which I avoid, but otherwise, I think it’s a great way to generate awareness of your work.

    You also might consider joining a blog tour. When I participate in one, my blog traffic increases. And I’ve found other bloggers through tours that I now follow. I subscribed to Rachel’s blog, for instance, because I read her terrific posts during a couple tours. I knew I wanted to follow what she was doing.
