Hodgepodge and an Invitation to a Party

This is collectable Friday—tossing in a bit of this and a piece of that.

First, Kameron asked a couple tough questions in a comment to yesterday’s post. I’m glad he did. I probably should have made my answer to him the post for today, but didn’t think ahead. Anyway I suggest you take a peek at yesterday’s comments.

Speaking of comments here at ACWoF, thanks to all you who played “guess who’s leading.” Actually the more accurate name would be “guess who Becky thinks is leading,” because you all gave some great answers.

I can’t say who was first or who influenced whom. Maybe the whole thing came about because of that exit poll back in 2004 when the media discovered that religion played a part in people’s decisions. I don’t know. But in my mind the notable shift came with Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ. It is well documented how he could get no backing for the project and it turned into this phenomenal success.

What I’ve seen from that is 1) a willingness to produce movies with overt Christian themes; 2) a faithfulness to original sources with religious themes; 3) an aim for higher quality (not always achieved, of course–partly because the backing still isn’t always there).

Other tidbits of interest: frequent ACWoF commenter and fellow CSFF BT administrator Mirtika Schultz‘s winning short story for the Sword Review is now on line. Be sure to stop by and have a look.

Latest In Spec, the newsletter/bulletin board for all things related to Christian Science Fiction and Fantasy, is ready to gather news for the March issue. If you have an interview, review, story, contest, speaking appearance—any CSFF related news you’d like to draw attention to, Latest In Spec is the place to post it.

This is a collaborative effort between CSFF Blog Tour and the Lost Genre Guild. Members of both organizations are automatically subscribed (unless they opt out). If anyone else is interested in subscribing to the free on-line publication, go to the Subscribe page at CSFF.

And speaking of blog tours, this month CSFF will feature Randy Ingermanson. In April we will focus on Karen Hancock and the last of the Guardian-King series.

It’s a BLOG Party. Not a tour, a party! Starting today and running through March 9.

    Ultimate Blog Party

I missed out submitting something for the prize page, so I’m going to offer drawings of books here at A Christian Worldview of Fiction for three people who leave comments between now and March 9 when the party ends.

I’m giving choices, too. Here are the books I’m making available:

  • Bottom Line by Kimberly Stuart
  • Harsh Pink by Melody Carlson
  • The Wedding Caper by Janice A. Thompson
  • In Sheep’s Clothing by Susan May Warren
  • Sands of Time by Susan May Warren
  • Julia’s Hope by Leisha Kelly
  • Squat by Taylor Field
  • Violette Between by Alison Strobel Morrow
  • Seventy Times Seven by Brandt Dodson
  • Blind Dates Can Be Murder by Mindy Starns Clark
  • The Last Ten Percent by Michelle McKinney Hammond
  • Demon, A Memoir by Tosca Lee
  • Don’t forget—leave a comment between now and March 9 to have your name included in the drawing. Three names will be selected. I will post the names and email the winners. First to respond gets the book of his or her choice. Winners two and three may also if winner one didn’t snag it first. 😉

And by the way, you too can join the party. All you need to do is click on the invitation button and head over to Party Central.

    Have a blast! 😀

Well, that should about do it for today, I think.

    1. Oooooh, thanks for linking to my story. I hope everyone goes by and reads it. If you have comments about it, drop me a line in the forum (under the FICTION & POETRY section, under the story name “Waiting for Appa.”) Although I think the story has a “discuss in forums” button that takes you there.

And I would love a shot at winning Demon, A Memoir. 😀

      what?

I’ve been seeing a lot of people doing the party so that’s good. Those books look great; very generous.

I’m sure that this will be good for your blog-Chris

    8. Great to have each of you drop by. I’ll have to find another occasion to do a book give-away. 😉
