Hodgepodge and an Invitation to a Party

This is collectable Friday—tossing in a bit of this and a piece of that.

First, Kameron asked a couple tough questions in a comment to yesterday’s post. I’m glad he did. I probably should have made my answer to him the post for today, but didn’t think ahead. Anyway I suggest you take a peek at yesterday’s comments.

Speaking of comments here at ACWoF, thanks to all you who played “guess who’s leading.” Actually the more accurate name would be “guess who Becky thinks is leading,” because you all gave some great answers.

I can’t say who was first or who influenced whom. Maybe the whole thing came about because of that exit poll back in 2004 when the media discovered that religion played a part in people’s decisions. I don’t know. But in my mind the notable shift came with Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ. It is well documented how he could get no backing for the project and it turned into this phenomenal success.

What I’ve seen from that is 1) a willingness to produce movies with overt Christian themes; 2) a faithfulness to original sources with religious themes; 3) an aim for higher quality (not always achieved, of course–partly because the backing still isn’t always there).

Latest In Spec, the newsletter/bulletin board for all things related to Christian Science Fiction and Fantasy, is ready to gather news for the March issue. If you have an interview, review, story, contest, speaking appearance—any CSFF related news you’d like to draw attention to, Latest In Spec is the place to post it.
