Fantasy Challenge II
Fantasy Challenge II winners:
Dona Watson
Jason Joyner
Nina Ruth
Nora St. Laurent
Email me at rluellam at yahoo dot com (or my other email address if you have it), to make your choice of books as prizes, and to get instructions to receive them.
Go to a local book store, Christian or ABA, chain or independent, and do one of three things:
- 1. Buy a book. This is especially a good thing to do, and since Christmas is just behind this two-month challenge, you might think who you know that would enjoy a Christian fantasy.
2. Talk to a clerk or manager about a specific Christian fantasy title, either asking if they’ve heard of it or why they don’t stock it, or commending them for having it on their shelves. You might even put in a plug, saying you hope they carry many more titles like it.
3. This one has several parts. Click over to Latest In Spec (or when the call for news goes out, email the information to me) and leave information on your Favorite Book Store—name and address. When the issue with your book store releases, print out the entire copy and take it to the book store to give to your store manager. It really does work.
Here’s how you become eligible for one of the various prizes several of our authors are donating. After you visit your book store, come back here to A Christian Worldview of Fiction and leave a comment with this information.
1. Who you talked to (clerk, manager)
2. When you visited the store.
3. What book you purchased, ordered, discussed. Or which issue of LIS you gave them.
4. What response you got.
That’s it.
You may enter as many times as you wish. The more the merrier, I always say!
Have fun.
Here’s a list of suggested titles (sorry, sci fi’ers. This really is a fantasy challenge).

I was at our local Barnes and Noble (the only real place to go around here) last night (10/2) and checked around. They had Robin Parrish’s Fearless and Bryan Davis in the Christian Fiction area. No RK Mortensen, Battson, or Hopper in either YA or CF. I requested they order in Relentless by Parrish. I was going to ask about Mortensen, but I got distracted when my wife arrived. How’s that?

All right, Jason! Whoo-hoo!
You are the first entry.
As soon as I know just how many prizes I’ll be able to offer, I’ll update the page to include that information. The way I’m thinking it will work is, let’s say we have 5 prizes. I’ll pick winners 1-5 (and a person can win more than once), and let them select the prize they prefer, in the winning order. In other words, winner 5 would not have a choice.
Now I just pulled that number out of my hat. Don’t really know which or how many books I’ll have to give away.

I work at the Life Way and we have ALL of these books on the shelf. I checked them just yesterday. I try to make sure that we have a wide selection of books. I run three book clubs at my store.
Please enter me to win. I’m always looking for good books for my clubs.

Nora, you rock! You are indeed entered in the contest. And since you checked on all those books in one day, I’ll give you another way to continue playing. You can report on fantasies you hand sell. Just leave a comment here and I’ll enter your name again.
Love those book clubs!

Becky, I found The Restorer a few weeks ago at my local Borders & bought it; then called them to restock when I wanted to buy more to give as gifts to friends who are Christians & looking for good spec fiction. Now they are on their 3rd re-stocking (no, I did not buy all those for myself; only 3 copies!) & they also carry the entire series by Donita Paul & the entire series by Karen Hancock. I introduced my best friend, a Christian librarian who works at a local seminary to Sharon Hinck’s books & now they are stocking them at the campus bookstore!
I’m so excited that Christians are writing brilliant spec fic!

Today (10/16) I went to Promise Land Christian Bookstore (Temecula, CA) and spoke with my friend, Carol Lethin, owner of the store. I asked her to order both C.Hopper’s Rise of the Dibor and S.Hinck’s Restorer’s Son. Both are due to arrive on Friday. And I can’t wait to read them!

I am presently reading a book “piety and politics” by the Reverend Barry Lynn. the Reverend Barry W. Lynn is a well known United Church Of Christ minister. (Not Fiction), but a good read.
